Four in the running for Suit’s seat

The Virginian Pilot is reporting that four people – all Republicans – have expressed interest in running for the seat being vacated by Terrie Suit. Three names had previously surfaced: Sheriff Paul Lanteigne, former Oceana CO Tom Keeley, and Planning Commissioner Barry Knight, who announced his candidacy on the day Suit announced her resignation. The newest to declare is Chesapeake School Board vice chairman Harry Murphy.

No word on how the Republicans will choose their nominee. No Democrats have announced to run in this heavily Republican district.

  1. Any word on when the special election will be held? December 16 makes the most sense, as there will be a special election that day in Fredericksburg (for Commonwealth’s Attorney) and that is also the date for the runoff election for Richmond Mayor, if necessary.
