Sunday’s Virginian Pilot offered the opportunity for Virginia Beach residents to learn of the opinions of its four candidates on a major issue facing the next mayor: the budget. Posed by The Pilot:
What principles would you use to deal with the multi-million-dollar hole in next year’s city budget? What priorities would guide your thinking? If you cut or phase out taxes, do you replace the revenue?
The candidates’ answers can be found here. (Once again, the PilotOnline folks have missed the boat, failing to link the op-eds to the special page for VB elections. Oh, well. At least they have a voter guide up, even if it is not in a form that easily allows comparison of the candidates.)
Interesting note – there is a PilotOnline blog devoted to the Virginia Beach elections. According to this post, only three of the four candidates came in for editorial board interviews, with candidate John Moss declining to do so since he does not expect The Pilot’s endorsement. Candidate Scott Taylor forgot his appointment. I’d say that narrows the field a bit, leaving the endorsement between incumbent Meyera Orberndorf and Will Sessoms.
