Del. Dwight Jones has declared victory in the Richmond mayor’s race and his chief opponent, William Pantele, has conceded.
“I congratulate Dwight Jones. It was an honest victory. I’m going to support him 100 percent and I’m going to continue working for the city,” Pantele said.
Jones had already captured four of the city’s council nine council districts — a majority is needed for victory – and was ahead in a fifth district, according to unofficial returns.
Pantele was the apparent winner in three districts.
This race has been very close. Congratulations to Mayor-elect Jones. (And there’s another special election we’ll be dealing with. Wonder if the Governor will set the same date for this one as for the Terrie Suit seat in Virginia Beach?)
