In 2005, when I ran for City Treasurer, one of the things that I wanted to change in the office was the ability to make tax payments over the internet. Once I said that, we were told that a new system was already under contract to accomplish just that. In fact, we were promised that the new system would be online in January 2006.
Well, it’s almost three years overdue but finally Norfolk residents will have the ability to pay their taxes online rather than having to go to the Treasurer’s office M-F from 8:30am – 4:45pm.
Joining the 21st century. What a concept!
Good old Moss. Always coming up with something to use at election time. Didn’t he do away with the city stickers about the same time last time?
Moss is, what, 80 now? Isn’t it time for him to be retired?
Or is the fact that Sharon MCDonald is running both offices the reason he’s staying there? Nice work if you can get it – getting paid for doing nothing!
So, how much money did the citizens of Norfolk have to cough up over nearly three years to get the capability to do something that PayPal figured out almost a decade ago?
Tom Moss has been a great public servant and he will continue to serve the public’s best interests. People need to understand that it sometimes takes time to implement new technology such as computer services. By the way, he did get rid of those annoying city stickers!
