Saturday morning dawned cold and rainy. Despite that, volunteers from throughout the community gathered at 8am at James Monroe Elementary School, located in Park Place, to plant a rain garden at the school. How appropriate to be planting a rain garden in the rain! Pretty soon, though, the sun came out (although the mud remained) and what was blank slate turned into a beautiful area.
I got there a little after 8 and a quite sizable group was already in place. I didn’t take my camera but others did. Here are a few pictures. (As always, click to enlarge)
A big kudos to the Monroe principal, the Monroe staff, the SCA, the PTA, the Park Place Civic League and all the others who showed up to make this happen.

That looks like a particularly satisfying way to spend a weekend morning.
I had a great time. Remined me when I was a child playing sand
box only this one had a foot of mud. Partnerships such a the rain
garden are invaluable in teaching our children about the enviroment
and ownership in the community. Efforts such as this will create a sense of pride and ownership that cannot be tought. The school, community
and the City will reap benefits for years to come.
Thanks, Keith the guy from the city who played in the mud all day
and loved every minute of it.
