Herring in the 46th

Within hours of the announced resignation of Del. Brian Moran, Governor Tim Kaine set the date of the special election to fill his seat: Tuesday, January 13, 2009, just one day prior to the opening of the General Assembly session.  The deadline for candidates to file to run in the election is Wednesday, December 17.
