Wow! What a day!

On the first day of appointments for me for tax season, lots of stuff happened – and I missed a lot of it 😦

I started the day not with clients but at the announcement of Hampton Roads Performs (more on that later). While there, I learned of the announcement by AG Bob McDonnell that he is resigning. (This provided interesting fodder for a conversation I had with a client today that grew up in the same neighborhood as McDonnell. They played together, their parents were friends.  And the stories he told me about “Bobby,” as he called him 🙂 Just wait — I’ll have to use those stories later.)

Then there was the withdrawal of Tom Dashle. I happen to think that was a good move and only wish it had happened sooner.

In between, there was the release of this poll, which shows the standings of Democratic candidates for governor. Terry McAuliffe and Brian Moran are at 18% each, while Creigh Deeds is running third with 11%. That leaves a whopping 53% of the voters undecided at this point. Interestingly enough, 65% of the African Americans sampled are undecided. No doubt this is why McAuliffe released two more radio ads today, each targeted to the black community.

Finally, there is a special election for the chairmanship of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Those results will be available once the polls close.

What else did I miss?

UPDATE: How could I have missed this? Seems the Virginia Senate thinks it’s OK to carry concealed weapons in a restaurant but not OK to smoke there. If these become law, y’all better watch out for pistol-packing patrons with nicotine fits.

  1. We’re getting a bona fide winger – Barbara Comstock – gunning for Del. Margi Vanderhye’s (D-Fairfax) seat in Richmond. Comstock brings so much crazy that it might bring me to care about a Fairfax race.

  2. I can’t speak for Kaine but just how does one identify a person who is carrying a concealed weapon and engages in drinking?

Yeah, MB. I guess that’s next.

  3. That’s a very good question, and I don’t really have an answer.

One law I would like to see is allowing CCW down to 18 and on college campuses. When “pressed” by an suitor who will not take NO for an answer, I would like my daughter to be able to say, “OK, but let me get protection,” and then pull her .38 caliber “protection” out of her purse.

  4. Its about time McDonnell did the “honorable” thing and resigned. He’s been running his campaign from his taxpayer funded office for the past two years now. How will he manage without the taxpayers paying for his office?
