Live blogging McAuliffe telephone town hall

Terry McAuliffe, Democratic candidate for governor, is holding a telephone town hall meeting right now. I called in on the press listen-only line, but then my home phone rang – I got called for it, anyway.

McAuliffe says this is the third such call he has made. Prior calls, he said, had over 5,000 callers each participate. His last announcement was that there were about 3,800 people on the call.

I’ll be updating this post as the call continues.

  1. Transportation. High-speed rail, public/private partnerships. Met with the chairman of Norfolk Southern – we can get this done.

Light rail. Get the cars off the road.

Sat in traffic going thru the tunnel for over an hour. Shouldn’t have to do this.

Give local jurisdictions more authority. If we need a third crossing, shouldn’t have to go begging to Richmond.

  2. Healthcare: everyone should be able to get quality, affordable healthcare. Losing rural doctors. Need to keep them here. Let them pay less taxes if they stay and serve the community.

  3. Educator – loss of years of credit for moving from one state to another? TM: want to encourage quality teachers to come here from other states. Losing 50% of our teachers in the 1st 5 years. Education has to become a top concern.

Gyms not being built in new schools. Won’t be taking salary as governor, use the $$ to build a gym. Hopes to be able to encourage other CEOs to do the same.

Wants to build a large grass roots organization. Hit #1 on the phone to sign up.
