Tuesday evening, American Idol’s top seven sang music from movies. The contestants were assisted by legendary director Quentin Tarantino. Because the show ran over last week, they changed the way the judges offered their comments. Instead of hearing from all four judges, each performer only heard from two.
Kicking things off was 16-year old Allison, who sang “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing.” I actually thought this was a fairly weak performance – except for the one big note. Hey – I’m a fan but I call ’em as I see ’em. The piece was too low – again, except for that one big note. The judges liked it, though.
Anoop chose a melancholy version of “Everything I Do,” ignoring Tarantino’s advice to “rough it up a bit.” It was pretty good but nothing to write home about. Again, the judges liked it. (Maybe my ears are tired, too.)
“Born to Be Wild” was the choice of Adam. (I was actually expecting something from “La Cage aux Folles” 😆 ) Have to admit – I’m not that much of an Adam fan. I just don’t like his screaming. And how come he gets so many effects on his voice? No one else seems to get that.
Matt went back to the piano to sing “To Really Love A Woman.” Good beginning, good ending, bad middle. Unfortunately for Matt, the middle was the bulk of the song.
Predictably, Danny sang “Endless Love.” (Wonder where his glasses went?) He did a decent job on the song, but he just doesn’t have a lot of control, especially to sing a ballad like this.
Kris chose a song that I didn’t know – “Falling Slowly” from the movie Once. Interesting song, interesting performance.
Closing the show was Lil, singing my signature song, “The Rose.” (I must say – interesting choice for an R&B singer.) I didn’t like it – too far from the original melody and too pitchy for me.

Most of the performances tonight were disappointing. It’s hard for me to pick the bottom three.
Adam is a fantastic show man; reminds me of the silverhaired guy who won a few years back the way he ran and jumped all over the stage. Guess the more you scream and run, the crazier the audience gets.
Me, I liked Anoop and the guy at the piano.
Vivian,
What is it with you hating the hard rockers. Adam gets those sounds becuase he easily has the best voice of the competition and he has such a range. It is unbelievable. He should be the favorite easily. I do agree with Simon that Allison wil be the last girl standing.
I don’t hate on hard rockers – Adam isn’t in that category, in my book. He’s a wannabe rocker.
@sulawesi – funny that you should say that Adam reminds you of Taylor Hicks. My other half said the same thing. I don’t see it, though.
