Congressional Issues luncheon

Congressional LuncheonThe Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce hosted a Congressional Issues luncheon Wednesday. The event featured the four Congressmen that represent the area: Rob Wittman (R-1st), Glenn Nye (D-2nd), Bobby Scott (D-3rd) and Randy Forbes (R-4th).

Each of the Congressmen were given five minutes for an opening statement.  They were asked to address a wide range of topics – the federal stimulus, national defense, the port of Hampton Roads, card check, updates on Iraq and Afghanistan, transportation and infrastructure funding, and healthcare reform – all in those five minutes. Needless to say, none of them could do so in such a short period of time so each one took on the topics most important to him. (I tweeted the event.) Afterwards, the Congressmen answered several questions from members of the 250 or so in attendance.

What was clear from the luncheon was that there is a lot of work to be done in Washington. The Virginian-Pilot’s Bill Bartel has more on this.
