First up – he who would be AG:
Then there’s the correction that beats all others.
A May 22 editorial on Virginia’s Democratic gubernatorial primary incorrectly stated that Terry R. McAuliffe had described himself as a “huckster.” In his autobiography, Mr. McAuliffe described himself as a “hustler.”
Not funny: Don’t smile at the DMV. “The driver’s license photo, it seems, is destined to look like a mug shot.”
After a long wait, who’s going to smile, anyway?
And in case you missed it, my friend Mark made it to my bash. His take on the event is here.
Cuccinelli considering waiting on the social security number sounds paranoid huh? Would have been nice to hear the question he was responding to in order to get the full context. Pretty easy to find a snippit to make somebody look bad.
Besides the possibility of having that childs social security number stolen for indentity fraud, what else could he be worrying about? Why this fear of being tracked? Certainly, the opposition would never use connections to “track” the Palin children. (Even if you can’t stand Sarah Palin, is it right to target her children? Wasn’t it wrong to put Chelsea Clinton under a microspe?) Surely, nobody would bust Ed Schrock on being gay(not involving SS #s but goes to lengths people will go to, and being so hypocritical he kinda deserved it). Why were the Clintons so interested on getting FBI files on Republican Congressmen? Why Did Sandy Berger smuggle secret documents out of a government building in his pants? Why is it a long standing tradition for the sitting president to have the IRS audit major figures of the opposition party? Social Security connections there? Does Cuccinelli know something about other elected officials having their family staked out? Probably. What will somebody be willing to do to win an election? What opportunities did Bush have to learn things he shouldn’t with the Patriot Act, and wire taps without a warrant? Cuccinelli fought against the REAL ID that many hard core fascists insist on in the name of home land security.
I’m guessing Cuccinelli would also be opposed to city assessors coming into your house to “check” on your dwelling. Cuccinelli was one of the lead Republicans to push through legislation here in Virginia protecting us from eminent Domain abuse. See his bill that passed the year we got reform:SB 781 A link to that bill can be found on blog I sometimes write for in my piece on Cuccinelli.
It seems like maybe he was addressing a question of personal security from a potential supporter at a fund raiser. Not knowing the full context here, I’m sure he has his reasons for his take. Being an attorney and a state senator that continually wins SOMEHOW in liberal northern Virginia, I’m quite sure he’ll be able to do the research needed in dealing with SS numbers and weigh the pros and cons.
A lot will likely be said about his being “too extreme”. Trying to provoke fear by his opposition. Yes, he’s religious and in the Republican party. That in mind, consider why so many Libertarians are so strongly supporting him. Much of the local Tidewater Libertarian Party was at his fund raiser in Newport News. We don’t agree with Cuccinelli on everything obviously. On balance however, we recognize that Cuccinelli has done a great job for Virginia and will further serve with distinction as Attorney General. I can understand wanting to tarnish a Republican capable of winning in left leaning districts. He is well organized and capable of getting the job done.
If Ken Cuccinelli was some extreme right wing kook, believe me, he wouldn’t be getting so much support from us.
