From the Steve Shannon for Attorney General Campaign:
Virginia Beach, VA – The first debate in the race for Attorney General revealed profound differences between Senator Ken Cuccinelli and Delegate Steve Shannon. Shannon emphasized his experience as a criminal prosecutor and the leading role he has taken in child protection. Cuccinelli by contrast focused more on attacking President Obama and explaining his plans for changing the jurisdiction of Virginia’s appellate courts.
Shannon addressed Virginia’s growing illegal drug problems by presenting his comprehensive regional strategy to combat gangs like MS-13 that control Virginia’s drug trade. Cuccinelli attempted to match Shannon’s prosecutorial experience by discussing his work on the Senate Courts of Justice Committee. Cuccinelli struggled to explain his support for the “trigger-man rule” that Shannon blames for hindering the prosecution of beltway snipers John Allen Mohammed and Lee Boyd Malvo.
“We are delighted that members of the Virginia Bar had this chance to compare both candidates. Today’s debate made clear that Steve Shannon is the best prepared to keep Virginia families safe,” said Shannon campaign manager, Roman Levit.
