I attended Norfolk’s National Night Out celebration Tuesday evening. Saw a lot of people there that I hadn’t seen in a while. The church where we gathered was literally overflowing with people – so much so that a lot of folks gathered outside, listening to the events inside over the loudspeakers.
After the program, it was time for the parade. I opted to stand and watch the parade rather than participate in it. At the end of the parade came a candidate for the House of Delegates, one who I have not previously met or seen. The candidate walked over to the area where I was standing and stood, with his back to me, while he chatted with the staff of another candidate.
Not once did he turn around and talk to the people around him.
I guess it never dawned on him that voters in the district in which he is running would be in the crowd.

Any chance your going to reveal the name of the candidate? Or Party affiliation?
Nope.
Was he in his own district?
I’m not saying anything more about who it was. If I had wanted to identify the person, I would have. But I don’t – and I won’t.
Then why even bring it up?
Because ALL candidates should be paying attention to voters. Sometimes they just have blind spots and don’t realize what they are doing.
Viv,
Over the years, I’ve seen this a lot. It makes you wonder why some of these people even run for office.
