The explosion of Twitter use has left many users to look for software for their phones. When I first started using Twitter on my BlackBerry, I chose to use TwitterBerry, mainly because it was free. Somewhere along the line (perhaps it was from hanging out in the Crackberry forums π ) I found UberTwitter.
The program is still in beta and last week, theΒ latest beta was released. With it came an announcement that the free version would contain ads while a paid version would be ad-free. Unfortunately for users, the ability to buy an ad-free version was not yet available and the released beta had ads. In the face of this backlash, the folks at UT turned off the ads.Β A paid version will be coming soon.
While I haven’t tried every Twitter client for the BlackBerry, I have found UT to be a close replica of the way Twitter works on the web interface. So far, there hasn’t been anything that I do on the web that I cannot also do on my BlackBerry: I can follow/unfollow people,Β read other’s timelines, check trending topics, review and respond to direct messages, and lots of other things, some of which, like updating your Google Talk status, I don’t use.
I have only had one problem with the latest beta: it doesn’t seem to want to remember the last tweet I read, particularly when I’ve gone a long time between checking it. This issue is really annoying in the morning, when I typically grab my BlackBerry first thing to catch up with what happened overnight.Β (Yes, I’m one of those people π ) If they can get this issue fixed, I’ll be happy to part with the $4.99 for the software.
In the meantime, if you are looking for a Twitter client for your BlackBerry, give UberTwitter a spin.
