Hamilton taken off RPV website. Saw this pop up last night on the Pilot’s political blog. The website is here. Combined with Jeff Frederick’s tweet, I’m wondering what the heck is going on that side. Has the RPV split with the Speaker? Inquiring minds wanna know 🙂 UPDATE: He’s back up. According to The Shad Plank:

RPV spokesman Tim Murtaugh said: “We stand by our previous statement. However, as of now, Phil Hamilton is, in fact, an incumbent Delegate running as a Republican.”

I guess when they refer to “previous statement” they mean their call for him to resign.

Has Newport News had its “Phil” of Hamilton? Good question, Schapiro 🙂

Somebody is lying to me. I got the email announcing that Senator Webb would be addressing the Chamber yesterday. Given that, as a member, the Chamber fills up my email box with all kinds of stuff, I thought maybe I had just overlooked it. Nope. So I contacted them about attending the Webb event.  I was told this was a small event, already sold out and that’s what the Senator wanted. (SRO was available for the press.) Getting to the fundraiser for Joe Bouchard last night, I spoke with one of his local people first, who assured me that it was the Chamber, not the Senator, who put that event together.  The Senator just laughed when I asked him about it, saying why would he choose to be in front of a small group when a larger one would do? Somebody lied to me – and I doubt it was the Senator or his staff. A real shame since the Senator comes to Hampton Roads so infrequently.

Hampton Dems hold Kennedy vigil. The Hampton Democratic Committee will be holding a candlelight vigil tonight for Sen. Ted Kennedy. The event is at 7pm on the Buckroe Beach stage. Organizers are asking that you bring a white candle and a chair.

Scott holding town hall meeting. Congressman Bobby Scott will be holding a town hall meeting Tuesday, September 1, from 7pm – 8:30pm at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center, 2410 Wickham Avenue, Newport News, VA 23607. Kudos to him for doing so. I hope to be able to attend.

Don’t forget. Gary West, the Democratic candidate in the 94th district, is holding a fundraiser with Bobby Scott Saturday. Details are here. Also Saturday, the VLBC is holding a reception to honor NFL Hall of Famer Bruce Smith. Details on that event are here. As I will be in Charlottesville for a League of Women Voters’ event, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to make it back in time for either of these events. If I do, I’ll be there.
