The Virginia Department of Taxation has launched a website to inform taxpayers of the new tax amnesty program, which starts today and runs through December 5. The program applies to taxes administered by the Department; however, not all tax periods are eligible. For example, only individual income taxes for the taxable year 2007 and prior apply, so if you owe for 2008, you’re out of luck. The website includes some interactive features, including a live chat and an amnesty calculator. If you owe back taxes, now’s the time to “get square.”
Note: I really wish they had waited just 10 more days to launch this amnesty period. Things are crazy enough with the 10/15 tax filing deadline approaching. Calls about the program are already coming in.
