Thursday update: TV ads, the Obama meme

Tuesday, Del. Bobby Mathieson (D-21) released the first campaign ad of his re-election campaign.

The Deeds campaign released a new TV ad today as well.

And ICYMI, there is a new meme about the Deeds campaign: that Obama won’t be back in the state to campaign for Deeds.  And Gov Kaine can’t say whether the President is coming. This meme started with a Wall Street Journal story yesterday, which alleges that the White House is “stepping back” from the campaign. Of course, every media outlet out there has jumped on this like stink on you-know-what. If the Deeds campaign has addressed this, I haven’t seen it. But then again, VP Joe Biden was in the state today for a Deeds fundraiser.

I have to say I don’t think the race in Virginia is going to turn on whether or not Obama comes to Virginia to campaign for Deeds. This speculation, like so many other things, is just a diversion. Jeff Schapiro of The Richmond Times weighed in on the subject in his latest Virginia Notes video.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

(Today the WSJ again weighs in on the VA gubernatorial race, calling it a “page turner.”)

  1. I was at the Harvest Fest on the Eastern Shore. Incumbent Delegate Lewis was there, no Deeds lit, no Deeds signs. Tim Kaine was there for quite some time; no Deeds sticker on, no one with him that brought anything for Deeds.

  2. It would be a bad decision for Obama to come and campaign for Deeds. Obama’s image has taken a beating lately (Olympics, failure to talk with McChrystal, health care headache, etc.). To be seen with a candidate who seems to be headed on a downward trajectory would be an AWFUL move. He should not spend his “political capital” on the Deeds campaign.

Folks need to accept the fact that, barring an implosion, Bob is going to be the next Governor. The Obama win may have been the best thing to happen to Virginia’s Republicans.

  3. The President should come down to Hampton Roads and help out Deeds. It would be a great plus.
And since when is the right wing WSJ read in Va??

  4. “Honest Transportation Plan”?

What plan would that be? All the reporters could get out of him was the “everything is on the table.”
