Well, Thursday afternoon brought us the latest poll in the Virginia statewide races. (Details are here if you want to look.) Have to say I’m not feeling too confident about now.
Reminder: Pancake breakfast for Bobby Mathieson and Joe Bouchard is tomorrow morning. Details are here.
The Virginian-Pilot continues its profile of local House races. Thursday, it was the 85th District. I’ll make a prediction in that one: Tata in a landslide 😉 Today, it was the 87th District, which is my district. Honestly, I learned more about the challenger in this article than I have during the entire campaign season. That should give you a hint on which way this race is going.
Of course, the big news of the day is that the Nobel Committee has awarded the 2009 Peace Prize to President Barack Obama. I find the award premature.
So what’s on your mind? What else is going on out there? Feel free to comment about these things or whatever else you want.
“Deeds… is widely seen by voters as running a negative campaign….”
Ya think? Have you seen the “Bob McDonnell — Cutting Our Schools” signs? In all my days, I have NEVER seen attack signs.
I voted for Deeds over McDonnell four years ago. I voted for him in the primary. I never expected this from him.
Obama’s presidency is premature.
This is my two cents on the race, for whatever that is worth. The race was always theirs to lose. I have to congratulate Republicans on that end. They selected their best choice for each statewide office. They have run as moderates with solutions for issues that concern voters. They have completely swept the social issues part of their platform under the rug. Because they didn’t have a fight on the gubernatorial nomination, they were in a much better position coming into this. And their base is so super excited about this race they can barely contain themselves.
If they lost, I would feel for them. I’d send a gift basket, but there are too many of them. But it doesn’t look like I would be in danger of doing that.
No records of Paula Miller’s job discussions? The job was not created for her? I happen to know for a fact Bonita Harris was performing Delegate Millers job for some time now and that while it is true the job was not created for Delegate Miller, a new job was created for Ms. Harris, whom she replaced.
Polls? come on now, if this were 15 or 20 years ago, you might have reason to be concerned, but honestly, who answers these poll phone calls? They are as accurate as throwing a rock at the moon, and expecting to hit it! Polls have become a non-factor in todays politics. The only people that actually believe them are the pollsters themselves, who are desperately trying to bail out their sinking polling boat.
As far as Deeds goes, no one, and I do mean no one here in Hampton Roads even thought he would win the primary. It was all Moran and Terry. I’d suggest that yet again, Deeds is being underestimated and dismissed. Just like he was in the primary. When I look at the way the Democrats are running the coordinated campaign, I have to remember what Will Rogers said;
“I’m not a member of any organized political party. I’m a Democrat”. Truer words have never been spoken. In spite of themselves, the voters can see what a slime McDonnell is, and will vote accordingly!
not only is the Nobel premature I think it actually hampers Obama’s ability to pursue legitimate diplomacy. I could see him deserving it a few years from now if he actually did something differently from what Bush or McCain would do in Iraq and Afghanistan.
in the age of YouTube, poll numbers mean nothing
Perfectly reasonable position.
Huh? Hampers diplomacy with who?
everyone. the fact of the matter is that those who want to undermine Obama both domestically and abroad will use this as fodder to prove his empty promises and the honeymoon with the media. I also think it makes it difficult for Obama to walk away from a bad deal (i.e. accepting weak concessions from North Korean nuclear program)
if I had my choice, I would have given the prize to Neda or the Iranian people.
Here’s the first mistake:
does not equal
In fact, I’d venture to say the latter are a pretty clear minority. And among them, most (including most of the GOP) can be dismissed out of hand (you know, the bacon banning crowd).
~
And the Neda thing, sigh. WaPo looked like idiots over that, and I think it’s a cheap bit of populism.
MB, we both know it only takes a small minority to derail a plan so it should be a concern.
as far as Neda, if you believe the Peace Prize is to recognize those who have made sacrifices for a better world and an impact, then I don’t disagree with WaPo on this one. it may be easy to dismiss as populism but if these awards go to virtual unknowns then it is much harder to capitalize on their efforts.
Right, and that minority is the GOP. Who have already demonstrated that they reflexively oppose anything Obama wants to do. Why in the world should anyone care about the effect of this on them? No matter *what* happens, they act the same – attempt to delay and derail. Nothing really changes. So how the award of this does or doesn’t hurt their feelings, well, I don’t particularly care. But it’s silly to say that it’ll actually make what Obama’s trying to do *harder*.
News Release
19th December 2009
TV Series “Will County Boxing Gym: Meet the Boxers”
This new series will be a monthly, 30-minute production, featuring novice, amateur and professional boxers striving to become good fighters, not only in boxing, but in life. This pilot is produced by Valerie Ayertey at the Will County Boxing Gym with the help of Bolingbrook Community TV and is being distributed to local community access stations throughout Will County.
Stars include professional boxer Bobby Jaskierny, Joshua Zegar, Kassandra Ochoa, Juan Ortiz, and Charles Kozeluh. They will be trained along with others by professional boxers and coaches Joseph Awinongya, Billy “Boy” Thompson, Roy Smith, Donald Myart, and Maurice Holman- wrestling. These professionals share a common goal in giving our area youth a comfortable and safe place to go, off the streets, while learning what it takes to work hard and feel proud of their accomplishments. Working closely with some of the teachers and counselors is also a major part of what the trainers believe in as they are committed to teaching the kids that their education comes first. They believe that: ‘There is only one way to succeed and it includes sweat and sacrifice, and its time our youth learn both.’
During this pilot Illinois State Senator A.J. Wilhelmi, Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz-Voots, Will County Sheriff Paul Kaupas and other local officials were present for an Open House reception. Since we opened our doors a few months ago, appearances from dignitaries, local officials, area school administrators, and community organization leaders, are not unusual. The positive response we have received has spread quickly among the community as we are now serving over 400 members. We hope to include these visits in our upcoming TV series.
Initially, the show will be done in three blocks:
Block #1 – Introduction of the boxers – clips from daily life struggles, triumphs and achievements, an overview of training days, and clips from sparring sessions.
Block #2 – Discussion on various topics with boxers and Guest Appearances.
Block #3 –Coaches Pit – a discussion and conclusion of boxer’s achievements and what they need to work on both physically and in their daily lives (if appropriate).
