Vote today

The polls are open from 6am to 7pm. If you are unsure of your voting place, you can check it here.

Unlike prior elections, I will be casting my ballot at the polls today. I will be voting for the people who most closely represent my best interests, even though there are issues on which we disagree.

For governor : Creigh Deeds

For lieutenant governor: Jody Wagner

For attorney general: Steve Shannon

I live in the 87th House District, so I’ll be voting for Paula Miller. If I lived in another local district, I’d vote for:

  • 21st – Bobby Mathieson
  • 64th – Bill Barlow
  • 80th – Matthew James
  • 82nd – Peter Schmidt
  • 83rd – Joe Bouchard
  • 89th – Kenny Alexander
  • 90th – Algie Howell
  • 91st – Gordon Helsel
  • 93rd – Robin Abbott
  • 94th – Gary West
  • 100th – Lynwood Lewis

We also have four constitutional offices on the ballot in Norfolk, two of which are unopposed and one who has only nominal competition. In that race, I will be voting for Bob McCabe, the incumbent sheriff. The fourth race – which, incidentally, the Virginian-Pilot never got around to endorsing in – is the one for Commissioner of the Revenue. I can’t, in good conscience for reasons I have explained previously, vote for the Democratic candidate. I will be casting my ballot for the independent candidate, Doug Knack.

The only race outside of Norfolk that I have followed closely enough to make a recommendation on is that of sheriff in Virginia Beach. If I lived in that city, I would cast my ballot for John Bell.

  1. Vivian: here’s what I posted in today in Pilotonline.com in response to your flier:
“Since when is it misleading for someone to actually think for themselves and publicly support the candidates of his or her choice? Are printed materials purely the domain of political parties? Sharon is just teed off because a fellow Democrat had the audacity to break party lines. Then again, with Sharon it’s always about politics. That approach is what continues to hold Norfolk back. As it stands today, party politics represents two groups of people: those who want to control whose turn it is to run and extremists who are way off the reservation.”

  2. What happened to the rumored “Vivian Paige For Treasurer” write-in campaign? I voted for you anyway. If you win, will you serve?

  3. No predictions Vivian?

I think the GOP will win all 3 statewide races. Im gonna go with McDonnell by 12-15 points, Bolling by 10, and Cuccinelli with 15-20 points. I’m a VA Beach resident, my guess is that Stolle will win the delegate race by a huge margin and that Mathieson will come through barely. Sad part of it is theres probably coat tails by McDonnell that will help out the downballot GOP races. Hopefully we will pull it together in 2013!

  4. Wow, I was pretty close. The Mathieson race is extremely close. Im not surprised Bouchard lost by such a big margin, I saw this coming weeks ago.
