Monday this and that: open thread

Seems both the Democrats and the Republicans kept their House leadership intact, with the exception of the addition of David Englin as Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus. Funniest thing: Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell spoke at the meeting of the Democrats but not the Republicans.

The Norfolk Council races are starting to shape up. Six of the eight seats (all except the two superwards) will be on the ballot in May. Mayor Paul Fraim announced his intention to run for re-election the day after the gubernatorial election and will hold a campaign kickoff tomorrow. There was a decent writeup in Sunday’s Compass (the Norfolk insert) about the six races. At this time, there are announced candidates in the Ward 1 (incumbent Don Williams) and Ward 5 (incumbent Randy Wright) but from what I’m hearing, there will be more.

Gov. Tim Kaine was in Hampton Roads Saturday, touring parts of Hampton and Norfolk hit hardest by the storm. (No link to the PilotOnline story as the site is down right now.)

The date has been set for the Republican firehouse primary in the 8th Senate district.  It will be held Saturday, December 5.  Guess I need to get cracking on getting out some posts about these two 😉

So what’s on your mind? Consider this an open thread.

I think Randy Wright might be gone soon; why else would he endorse Bob if not for a spot in the administration? Secretary of Transportation perhaps?

There will be 3 locations for the canvass, 3 schools, I’ll let you know when I get the details.

  2. Sarah Palin on Oprah. Oprah cleared the air about not snubbing Sarah. Apparently she hates Katy Couric. The McCain handlers didn’t let Sarah be Sarah. They bought her all these clothes. They botched the press release about Bristol’s baby. The Palins weren’t giddy, they wanted this to be a teachable moment for America on teen pregnancy. Levi’s a loser and Bristol has to live with that for the rest of her life. She has lots of kids, but can juggle that with running for office because she has an enormous family/support network. And still an explanation for why she quit being governor that I still can’t understand. And we got to see the Palins at home on Halloween.

There were a couple of Oprah moments that worth watch.

And if you missed Sarah, she’ll be doing interviews all week for her best selling book. I bet it is so Through the Looking Glass. It is amazing how perception shapes reality. She is so ready to be president in 2012. =)
