According to a story posted on PilotOnline, Ward 1 council member Don Williams will not run for re-election.
“This is my Christmas present to Rose,” he said. “She’s had three serious bouts of cancer and a recent case of pneumonia. She’s healthy and it’s time for us to spend time together.”
Williams has served on council since 2002. He previously served in the House of Delegates, his seat having been a victim of the last redistricting.
While the article says that no “anointed heir” has been identified, rumor has it that there is no way Williams would have announced his retirement without someone in the wings. Further, I’ve been told that a number of people have been approached about running for this seat but no takers yet. Apparently, former Police Officer Chuck Brewer, who is expected to announce next month, is not the choice of the PTB in Norfolk.
(Um, I could have sworn we didn’t live in a monarchy!)
PTB?
Powers That Be
Always liked Don when he was in the Assembly. He’s a very nice man.
