SoftMaker, a company which develops office software that is an alternative to Microsoft Office but is completely compatible with it, announced today its holiday promotion: download the 2008 suite for free and the company will donate EUR 0.10 (ten Euro Cents) to charity.
I first became familiar with SoftMaker back in the day when I used a Windows Mobile PDA. Their products were superior to any others on the market and each year, they would hold an eagerly anticipated sale.
They have since moved into the desktop software, supporting both Windows and Linux operating systems, while still providing service to WinMobile and WinCE devices.
There is no catch here: download the suite and its free – forever. The suite includes TextMaker 2008 (Word processor), PlanMaker 2008 (Spreadsheet) and SoftMaker Presentations 2008 (Presentation graphics). The programs read and writes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files and are said to be reliable, fast, and easy-to-use.
