The news out of Redskins Park is that Vinny Cerrato, executive VP of football operations, has resigned. In his place will be Bruce Allen, son of former Redskins coach George Allen, who will also be general manager.
This is, of course, the first of many moves the Redskins will be making. I fully expect that coach Jim Zorn will be gone at the end of the season.
Unfortunately, Dan Snyder will still be the owner.

Perfect… a team with an insensitive racist name hires the brother of an insensitive racist….
NOTHING, nothing(sorry for shouting) is going to change until little Danny (I have lots of playtoys that ruin people’s lives) Snyder sells the skins and finds a new playtoy! Face, under Jack Kent Cooke, the Skins ruled. Ever since Snyder bought them, they’ve sucked! I’m a lifetime Redskins fan, so it pains me to write this.
And honestly, “racist name”????? Get over it! Team name glorifies Indians. Only recently(last 10-years) have we heard from sudo-indians, with questionble indian heritage, who want media attention, make such statements. I personally have spoken to the Chief of the Pamunky Indians (In West Point, VA) and he’s not “offended” by the name. And I’ve spoken to members of the Mattaponi tribe as well. Not one of them was “offended” or felt the “SKINS” was a “racist” name. Nothing racist about the Redskins. Glorifies a proud nation, who by the way, lost this land, to us.
Are you equally outraged at the rock/rapper singer Kracker? Isn’t that a “racist” name? Or how about Ga-Ga, doesn’t that objectify the babies? Do you find offense in everything you see?
Possibly you find fault with the name PAIGE, as it makes reams of paper feel imposed upon?
Hiring George Allen’s brother to run the redskins bolstered my feelings that the Redskins will continue to be a second rate squad. Now that Cerrato is gone, will Snyder continue to act as though he will continue to Meddle. Owners like Snyder and even the owner of my beloved Cowboys handicap their teams when they meddle in football operations ratehr than just signing checks and keeping the lighs on!!
Didn’t Allen put together a Super Bowl winner in 2003?
Here’s hoping that he can also have success with the Skins.
puleeze… Redskins is an affront, Darkies is and affront, Whitey is an affront to anyone with an iota of common sense, sensibility and courtesy to your fellow human beings. The biggest offender is that logo of the Cleveland Indians.
The leading organizations fighting on behalf of Native Americans are opposed to this obviously racist throwback to a different time.
Um, “Indians,” “Braves,” “Tribe”…those can all be construed as positive comments on Native Americans. (I’d agree the Cleveland Indians logo is a little over the top). But “Redskins” is a racial slur. Doesn’t matter what you think about it or what your unscientific survey of local Native American opionion says about it. That’s just a fact. It’s like using the “N” word to identify a team.
