Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, the Washington Redskins ended their season with a dismal 4-12 record. The Jim Zorn era as coach also comes to a close as the AP reports what the rest of us have known for some time. Zorn, who was brought in as a first-time offensive coordinator and was abruptly made head coach two seasons ago, will be fired.
The problem with the storied Washington franchise remains: owner Dan Snyder. Watching the game this afternoon, former Broncos player John Lynch mentioned that he had talked to Mike Shanahan, who is expected to be named as the seventh coach since Snyder’s purchase of the team in 1999. Lynch made what could charitably be characterized as an uninformed statement about the possibility of Shanhan being the new Washington coach, saying that Snyder was a good owner. Um, stick to color commentary, John. Seven coaches! Has any other team had so many in so short a time?
As long as Snyder remains as team owner, I don’t know if anyone can coach this team. If I were a player, I’m not sure I’d want to even play for this team (except as the third string quarterback who gets a paycheck to carry a clipboard).
Oh, how the once mighty have fallen!

Of course, no one will just leave them buried, like they ought to be . . .
What’s very odd about this is the performance of the players since Bruce Allen got hired.
A new GM equals “you’re playing for your job” as Allen is going to bring in a new coach and a new system.
Yet, the team seemed to be playing worse in the last few weeks. A little odd…..
Yep, the team’s track record certainly disproves the argument that Snyder keeps the offensive mascot name in order to HONOR Native Americans.
Thank God this season is over!!!
Commentary is dead on target Vivian. Snyder is the problem with the Redskins. Until he sells it and an new owner comes in a cleans up the mess he’s made, they’ll never be more than last place! 7-coaches, Lord knows how many other people changes, but the only common denominator is Snyder. I’ve given up football, until Snyder sells!
As a life long Lions (aka Lie Downs) fan, you get nutin’ from me in the way of sympathy!
4 wins is HUGE for us!
