Tuesday night’s show featured the music of the Billboard #1 hits. Some song choices were – well – strange. I mean, there are literally tons of #1 hits and this is the best they could do? And the “mentor” for this week was 17-year old Miley Cyrus. Um, aren’t mentors supposed to have talent? After watching her perform on tonight’s show, I’m convinced that the contestants are all better than she is – and that includes the horrible Tim Urban.
Some mentor, that Miley.
Anyway – the top 10 contestants on American Idol get to participate in the tour next summer. With 11 remaining contestants, one person would be oh so close. The performances Tuesday night – except Crystal and Siobhan, of course – were pretty bad. It’s no surprise that Paige, who seems to still have a cold, and Tim quickly took their spots in the bottom three. Katie rounded out the group but was quickly declared safe.
I have no idea who the two performers were that sang a duet. (Joe Jonas and Debbie somebody) Whoever they were, they fit right in. They were perfectly terrible. Seriously – is this what passes for singers these days?
VFTW probably helped to save horrible Tim tonight as Paige was eliminated. A shame. really, because next week’s theme – soul and R&B – should have been perfect for her.
The mentor next week will be Usher.
Um, OK.
I predict it will be another disaster.
I didn’t watch, but I’m guessing Demi Lovato was the singer. She opened for the Jonas Brothers in the 2008 tour. You’ve got to watch more Disney Channel.
Disney Channel? Um, I don’t think I get that one 😉
I think you’re right on who the female was. It was still pretty bad.
Vivian-
I’m with you! But, I fear, we just don’t “get” bubblegum pop which obviously appeals to the demographics of AI voters.
You’re right – bubblegum pop is what it is.
During Hollywood week and other early shows, all the judges kept talking about how this was the most talented year yet. Of course, they probably were saying that in part to hype of the season as we were only really seeing bits and pieces from various contestants (which could be edited to only pick out the parts that the producers wanted us to hear).
Now that we’re actually getting to hear the contestants sing, however, we’re no longer hearing the judges say how this is supposedly the best year yet. In fact, Simon yesterday and said that Crystal was the only one that really stood out (though, I would also add Siobhan and MAYBE Big Mike). I’m hoping that this is because they realize the overall field this year is actually quite bad.
Yeah – the field is pretty bad. I think the top 3 will be the same as you said: Crystal, Siobhan and Big Mike. I doubt that they will allow it to be an all-female final so I’m betting on Crystal & Mike as the final two.
I have always watched AI since it 1st started, but this season I watched the auditions and hollywood week…Im not impressed with the “talent”. Big Mike and Crystal are the only ones I like. When Andrew did the Paula cover he was my favorite, but since then he’s been horrible. I don’t even watch the show, I just youtube the performances of Big Mike and Crystal haha. And I think the way things are changing with Ellen (love her) coming in and Simon/Paula leaving it’s a completely new adjustment. Besides, Adam Lambert was AWESOME last season…loved him since he audition and stuck with him the whole time. Truth is…that they will never find another person with a phenomenal voice like Adam again and after last season and his talent being the “show”…it’s just not interesting this year. Which kinda hurts AI now.
this is really a sad day when I have to agree with Brian 🙂 but I believe him to be right as you are Vivian, it seems to me that the best are Crystal, Siobhan, and Big Mike. I think that is a very neat name Siobhan wonder what the roots are?
