A friend of mine and I had a rather elaborate April Fools’ joke planned for today. Yesterday, we decided to call it off, not because it wasn’t going to be fun or funny to do, but because of the poisonous attitude that pervades the political world these days.
What it says about the state of affairs – that we can’t even make political jokes anymore – is truly sad.
Maybe we’ll do it next year.
But I’m not counting on it.
