what are the odds on financial reform legislation that actually does what we need it to do? I’d say 2-1 against as we start the process.
What are you looking for in the legislation? That would determine the odds. Are you referring to Volcker’s Plan or Geithner’s Plan?
What I’d like is a return to the rational regulation that kept our financial system safe for 70 years, until a bi-partisan consensus developed to allow Wall Street to start gambling with other people’s money on investment vehicles they didn’t understand.
I’d be happy if I never had to hear the phrase “too big to fail” again, as well.
Well, I would agree with your odds on that then. The ABA is too powerful to let that happen (or at least for any meaningful duration).
The RSCC needs to raise money for the fall, so doubtful they’ll piss off their new friends in NYC.
