The Laborers’ International Union of North America Mid Atlantic Region last night endorsed Daun Hester for Mayor and Tommy Smigiel for council in Ward 5. This is the first time the union has participated in Norfolk’s elections. Not only did the endorsement bring some money to the campaigns – Hester received a donation of $10,000 and Smigiel $1,500 – but also the volunteers campaigns so desperately need. The union has over 1,00 members in Hampton Roads.
Both Hester and Smigiel spoke briefly to the standing-room only crowd of local members of the union. Videos are below the fold.
