American Idol results 05/19/10: down to two

Tuesday night’s show featured two songs each by the remaining three contestants: one chosen by the contestant and the other chosen by the judges. This particular night of the competition is always interesting as the contestants pick songs they think are best for them and the judges do the same. Rarely do the two ever match up 😉 The performances Tuesday certainly fit the normal pattern.

Except for Casey. Both of the songs he sang were bad. Seriously. Not only can this guy not sing, he lacks personality. That he wound up in the top three is indicative of just how weak the contestants were this year. If he weren’t cute, I doubt he would have made it this far.

The judges seem to prefer Lee. They heaped praise on his performances, far more than he deserved. Lee has a nice voice – I’ll give him that. But again it’s the lack of personality. Can you teach personality?

The most talented of the three is, by far, is Crystal. She’s really been heads and shoulders above the other contestants this entire season. While I didn’t particularly care for the first song – she should have ditched the harmonica – she absolutely nailed the second one. Would I buy her records? You betcha 😉

Wednesday’s results show was a lot of fill with footage of the trips home for the contestants. I’m usually no fan of fill – but these videos are pretty awesome. They show a totally different side of the contestants than we normally see. Even so, it was a long wait to get to the results.

And I finally found out who Justin Bieber is. I could have done without that little piece of info. This kid is, well, horrible. That’s five minutes of my life I’ll never get back.

It was 9:54pm before we got to the results. Not unexpectedly, Lee was named the first person to make it to the finals. Casey was – appropriately – odd man out as Crystal was named the other finalist.

  1. Justin Bieber was recently interviewed by a TV entertainment reporter in Australia, and reveaed that he didn’t understand the meaning of the word “German”. This kid is headed for a really painful adulthood.
