It’s been a strange season on American Idol. I will not be surprised if the show doesn’t return for a 10th season. Not only was the crop of contestants fairly weak, it seems the whole idea – of finding a heretofore unknown talent and giving them the opportunity to make it big – was lost this year.
As a singer, I’m a big fan of singing competitions. But this was less about singing than about trying to appeal to whatever demographic the producers saw out there. Obviously, I’m not a part of that demographic as I just didn’t get it. Didn’t get last season, either.
The show has lost something. I’m not willing to place all the blame on Vote for the Worst. But if it comes back for another round, I’m not sure I’ll be watching. It’s just not fun anymore.

I tried 3 or 4 times this season to watch American Idol this season, but it just couldn’t keep my attention. I don’t know what it was, but I think Simon got it right, it’s time for to leave it!
