Tuesday roundup

Another crazy day. Some stuff I found around the ‘net.

  • More found money. So the “surplus” is going to be revised to $404 million. Still less than the $620 million that the state failed to put into the retirement plan.
  • Dr. Laura loses advertiser. As she should. How about they just cancel her show?
  • Updated Cook ratings. VA-09 (Boucher)  and VA-11 (Connolly)  are listed as leaning Dem, while VA-02 (Nye) and VA-05 (Perriello) are listed as toss-ups. Not on the list – and, therefore, not competitive – VA-01 (Wittman), VA-03 (Scott), VA-04 (Forbes), VA-07 (Cantor),  VA-08 (Moran) and VA-10 (Wolf) .
  • Poll in Va-05. A new poll shows Hurt ahead of Perriello by 6 ( toplines pdf and crosstabs pdf). Mentioned on Twitter are two problems with the poll. First, the third candidate wasn’t polled at all. Second, the pollster asked some issues questions prior to asking about how the respondent would vote.
  • Blago gets off.  Convicted of just one count of perjury, the judge is declaring a mistrial on the remaining 23 counts. The prosecution says he will be retried on those counts.

That’s all I got. What are you hearing out there?

      1. I did go to Media Matters link and listened to it. It has been I think 10 years since I last heard her show. It struck me as her regular insensitive, boorish behavior.

      1. I put it in quotes because her use of it is pretentious. Her PhD is not related to her profession. We are not in an academic setting or attending a conference on physiology. And most important, she is not a medical practitioner. And if she were purporting to be a medical practitioner or engaged in some manner of psychology, at least in Virginia, it is required by law that she also refer to what she is licensed to practice. I assume most other states have something similar on their books.

        1. Well, Tex, since she is NOT “purporting to be a medical practitioner,” nor is she “engaged in some manner of psychology,” but has an ADVICE show, she has every right to use the title she earned.

    1. Sometimes, Brian, you go a bit too far. And this was one of those times. The day you see me defending rappers will be a cold day in hell. No one is right in using the n-word. Period.

        1. Except that she didn’t have the sense to not say the word. And that demonstrates more about her than she probably realized at the time, although she gets it now.

  1. Dr. Laura is quitting her show at the end of her contract later this year.

BTW, boycotts have never been censorship. Boycotts are just the free market being held accountable. If you choose to advertise on this radio program that i find objectionable, i will take my business elsewhere.

  2. Blago — let’s see… federal prosecutors, under the White House, do not call witnesses from the White House who supposedly were in contact with Blago about the Senate Seat. Doesn’t that sound just a little fishy?

  3. Christ. What did you ever do to deserve these idiots, Vivian? This is probably the most honest and thoughtful political blog left in Virginia, and the comments are full of race-baiting clowns and militantly ignorant people.
