I should have put this in the Friday Fun category. Except it is just too sad to be funny.
In a poll released earlier this week (toplines pdf), 60% disapprove of the way Democrats in Congress are handling their jobs. But 68% disapprove of the way that Republicans in Congress are handling their jobs. So the answer? 53% of the likely voters say they would vote for the Republican candidate while 43% say they would vote for the Democratic candidate.
That makes all the sense in the world to me.
I’ll bet “none of the above” could win this year.
Wouldn’t that be a hoot?
I believe you are right and therefore am changing my name to Nunya Above .. and hoping to be a write in candidate 🙂
I’ll be changing mine to “Anyone Else.”
Too funny. You’ll get my vote.
I often say I don’t agree with anyone’s politics 100% of the time, even my own.
I don’t think the numbers should surprise you, though. What a lot of independents may, – wanted to say will, but it’s anyones guess – do is say, The Dems have the House, the Senate and the White House have they been able to accomplish what the people think is important?
The Independents who say “no” will probably vote for the non-incumbent, or maybe keep the incumbent “R” to try for balance between Executive and Legislative. At least that is what this Independent is thinking today.
Except that so-called “balance” simply leads to gridlock, rather than compromise. (For that matter, small majorities lead to the exact same thing: witness the last two years.)
Viv, I’m pretty sure “none of the above” would win most years. There is more of a “a pox on both your houses” feel to the electorate this year, though.
What if they held an election and no one came?
Sadly, that would not too far off what get now 😦
Whoops! Missed the “we” part of get now in that sentence. My apologies to all. Back to English class for me.
