Distractions in the 2nd District campaign

My latest column, title above, appeared in The Virginian-Pilot today. It could have easily been called Campaign rubbernecking part II: Exhibit A as a followup to my description in last week’s column.

Regular readers of this blog know how much I prefer the voters remain focused on the issues. Trying to tie Glenn Nye to Nancy Pelosi is not an issue, even less so when it is noted that speaker-in-waiting John Boehner votes with her a majority of the time. Scott Rigell and Kenny Golden may have friends who engage in racist acts but that doesn’t make either of them racists.

I’ll say it again: these distractions come up is because the candidates are too close together on the issues. As a voter, I’d like a clearer choice.

Of course, does it really matter when I’m casting my vote for .2% of Congress?

  1. This “courtesy” that you are not the company you keep seems to only run one way.

During the 2008 campaign, after hearing Palin saying the Obama “pals around with terrorists” numerous times, where were all the these local GOP leaders? Did they denounce her? No, many attended Palin’s event this year in Norfolk.

So if people actively involved in your campaign let their real views be shown in an email, you can’t run away now.
