My latest column, title above, appeared in The Virginian-Pilot today. I’ve been thinking for a while about what constitutes a leader, and had intended to do one of my “Opinion, please” posts on it. I find it frustrating that candidates call themselves leaders. Shouldn’t that be for others to say? Show me that others recognize it and I might be able to accept it. But just saying you’re a leader? Nah.
Oh – and if you aren’t familiar with the old gospel, “May the Work I’ve Done Speak for Me”, check out this video.
If we all looked at leadership through the criteria you outlined in your opinion piece this morning, perhaps our government would work a little better and we would feel as if we have a voice. In today’s political arena, all we are getting are 30 sec sound bites that tell us nothing of the individuals we are selecting to lead us. Instead we tend to accept these tidbits of “information”as fact…it should be our responsibility to questions this information and get to know the individuals who were are choosing to be our leader. Thanks for providing some great guidelines to do this.
Happy to help. And yes, it is our responsibility to question the information we get. But I have to say I think it gets harder every cycle to do that.
yep, you got that right…
Thank you for your insightful message today. Best read I have come across in some time.
Glad you enjoyed it 😉
