Clinton on Spruill

I attended Del. Lionell Spruill, Sr.’s annual fall event last night. It was a very nice gathering in Chesapeake with many legislators and local elected officials in attendance. I had the pleasure of sitting next to Portsmouth Del. Johnny Joannou – we had a long off-the-record conversation πŸ˜‰

Norfolk Del. Kenny Alexander served as Master of Ceremonies. Former Del. Brian Moran, our next DPVA chair, was on hand to introduce the speaker, current DPVA chair C. Richard Cranwell.

Terry McAuliffee was supposed to be the speaker but couldn’t make it. But former president Bill Clinton, a friend of both Spruill and McAuliffe, recorded a short video for the event.

Cranwell, who served in the House for about 30 years, was in rare form. He had us in stitches, before getting serious and urging us to be soldiers in the process where the truth prevails. Sorry – no video or pictures – I was having too much fun to pull out the camera.
