Jen Little: Brian Moran for DPVA chairman

From an email I received:

Dear Fellow Democrats,

Brian Moran can count on my support in December, and I hope he can count on yours too!

I am in very good company with Brian Moran’s many, many endorsements from all over the Commonwealth. I am sending this note as a grassroots Democrat inspired to step up to lead my local Democratic committee as Mathews County Democrats chairman for two terms, and now with the support of Democrats from across the Commonwealth (including many of you!) in my first campaign for local office.

I know first hand, both as a former local committee chairman and as a candidate for local office, the investments of time (not to mention travel time!) and treasure Brian is willing to invest for the Democratic Party of Virginia. Even after the election Brian was there to mentor me with advice on governing and staying true to Democratic principals.

Although I was always very grateful for Brian’s support and advice during my campaign for school board in 2007, I was a little curious as to why he would help Jen Little with a little school board race in little Mathews County. One day I asked Brian why with all the state House, state Senate, and countless local races across the Commonwealth he took interest in a school board race in Mathews County. His response was simple, Brian stated he was investing in the future of the Democratic Party in Virginia. The advice and mentoring from Brian during my campaign was very much needed and still very much appreciated.

Brian Moran demonstrates true dedication to the Democratic Party of Virginia.

Brian Moran will be a Chairman who will move the DPVA forward and get us all back to the business of electing Democrats to office at every level of government.

Brian Moran didn’t need to be Chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia to help Democrats win races all over Virginia – Brian was there for us before this position ever became open – Now is time to make it his job!

Join me in supporting Brian when we all meet in December!

See you in Newport News!

With very best regards,
Jen

  1. It was very nice to have Brian here in Richmond for a meeting at lunch. We met at the Grapevive (on Three Chopt Rd) and Brian fielded a variety of questions and candidly conveyed some of his ideas.

One concern that I have is that, as someone who is not from Virginia, can Brian effectively persuade the mass of crossover voters here in Virginia to get onboard with the Democratic Party?

Brian took on my question by saying that he has travelled much of the state during his prior campaign and that he had not felt like he had experienced any difficulty in relating to Virginians. He added that, as Chairman, he would expect the candidates to be the folks who are motivating the locals to engage on the Democratic team. One note: Brian, the folks who you need to reach-out to, were absent from your campaign rallys.

There is no doubt in my mind that Brian Moran would be a highly polished, telegenic leader, as our State Party Chairman.

Whoever gets this job needs to return the Democratic Party to being the, “Champion of the Working Man.” Right now, the Democratic Party is seen as the S.O.Bs. who foisted “political correctness” on everyone, who have become the Party of, “You can’t say that” and the Party that has been co-opted by a handful of special interest fringe groups.

Virginians, expecially working class Virginians, are church-going, hard working (when there is work) and traditional familiy-oriented, patriotic citizens.

With the current economic depression, Democrats should be kicking serious ass, but instead of talking about doing battle FOR the American workers, the Democratic party has been talking about, of all things, “homos in the military!”

Nevermind that almost nobody from the ranks asked for a change to the policy, or that nobody can show that a change in the current policy will IMPROVE readiness or war fighting capacity.

If Democrats want to return to leadership here in Virginia, being advocates for the fringe groups can surely be part of the Party message, but the main theme that must be sung from every rooftop is that the Democratic Party is the, “Champion of the Working Man (and of course, woman).”

  2. Tyler,

I agree with most of what you, say however, I do not want the party to turn away from equal rights and liberty. Most Virginians I meet just want the government to stay out of there private lives, and spend their money wisely. They are not interested in whether someone goes to church on sunday or if they have a so called traditional family. I personally have never seen a traditional family. We definitely need to go back to the roots of helping the working man but we really never left. It is the Democrats that continue to back the rights of workers to have a say in their employment, continue to back safety in the workplace so the worker can go home safe, and continue to back middle class tax breaks. The republicans have just convinced the worker they actually care about them regardless of the evidence out there that they don’t give a d— about the working man. So although you have valid points only on winning back the workers, the workers need to do their own homework and quit voting to cut their own throat.
