A long but productive day

I spent the day in Richmond for the pre-legislative session of the Women’s Roundtable.  It was good to see so many from around the state who came together to listen to an impressive list of speakers and their planned legislative agendas for the upcoming session, including a couple of members of the Governor’s cabinet. We also heard from a couple of press people, one of whom, Pilot editorial writer Christina Nuckols, came up with the best laugh line of the day. In discussing transportation she said:

My newspaper always capitalizes the Third Crossing, probably because it comes chronologically after the Second Coming.

For those outside of Hampton Roads, the third crossing is the plan to build another way to get across the water here. It’s been on the drawing board for quite some time.

It’s been a very long day – I’ve been up since a little after 5am – but the trip was worth it. Hope to have more on this in a later post.

  1. No offense but the “third crossing” does not provide another way to cross any body of water here. Factually it isn’t a “third” crossing of anything, not the James, the Elizabeth or any river. Much like everything else that came out of Emperor Collins regime, it is a flawed and pointless project that has ham strung planners, politicians and newspapers who mindlessly promote it for decades now.

There is no money for it, it doesn’t alleviate any traffic congestion on any of the bridges or tunnels, and in fact, makes the MMBT useless during rush hour, not that it isn’t already, and doesn’t address the real problem or congestion at the HRBT.

For a project that would take up over $5-Billion (last estimate I saw) it doesn’t relieve traffic congestion one bit. Hopefully under Dwight Farmer the regional planning district commission can find some new vision and stop pushing a useless and pointless project that had done nothing but divide local communities for many, many years.

    1. I was just trying to briefly describe the project, which is why I included the link.

The 3rd crossing is DOA – I don’t spend a whole lot of energy worrying about it.
