Catching up

A few quick items:

Former Del. Bobby Mathieson has been nominated to be the U.S. Marshall for the Eastern District of Virginia. Mathieson will have to be confirmed by the Senate. Best wishes to Bobby. I hope he gets the appointment. (And I’ll bet Chris Stolle Ron Villanueva hopes so, too 😉 )

Sen. Fred Quayle has been named Suffolk’s First Citizen. Coming to a re-election brochure near you 🙂 Seriously, congratulations to the Senator for this recognition.

I’ve seen several stories mentioning redistricting maps that were drawn by the Governor’s Redistricting Commission, but no maps. I, for one, would love to see what they look like.

Speaking of redistricting, one of the Commission’s public meetings will be held in Hampton Roads. It will be March 21, at 7pm at Norfolk State University. Three earlier meetings are scheduled for other parts of the state.

Del. Lionell Spruill Sr. will be holding his campaign kickoff this coming Saturday morning, March 12, from 8:30am to 10:30am at the Khedive Temple, 645 Woodlake Dr. Chesapeake, VA where his infamous pancakes and sausage will be served. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Susan at 424-2178.

Last but not least – the Norfolk Federation of Civic Leagues has its regular monthly meeting tomorrow evening at 7pm at the Lake Taylor cafeteria. Guest speaker is yours truly. Come on out – just leave the rotten eggs at home 🙂
