The press release:

Delegate Robin Abbott Will Run in
New 93rd House of Delegates District

NEWPORT NEWS- Delegate Robin Abbott announced at the Newport News Democratic Committee meeting on Thursday, May 26th at 7pm that she will run in the newly drawn 93rd House of Delegates district. Delegate Abbott humbly asked for the public’s support and their vote on election day.

Throughout her campaign of 2009, Delegate Abbott promised, among other things:

– to work on our state’s transportation problems
– protect K-12 education so our children will continue to have a first
class education
– create jobs so our citizens could get back to work
– protect our most vulnerable citizens, those with developmental and
intellectual disabilities and our elderly citizens
– restoring the public’s trust to the office in which I serve.

Delegate Robin Abbott kept her word, and added that the work is far from being done.

Delegate Abbott continued to say, “I have proudly and honorably represented the hardworking people of Newport News and James City. Following the Redistricting process, I have exercised due diligence in studying both the new 93rd District and the new boundaries of the 94th District. In all my efforts, the interests of the citizens and the democratic party have been first and foremost on my mind. After speaking with party and community leaders and many voters, and in consultation with my family, I am honored tonight to announce my candidacy seeking re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates in the 93rd House District.

The people of this district don’t need a representative who pushes empty rhetoric about recklessly cutting education funding and striping away economic development tools that promote job growth, nor a party lap dog. I will do what you know me best for – fighting for the Peninsula’s fair share, cutting wasteful spending, and protecting the rights of the citizens, particularly our Veterans, elderly, and our most vulnerable citizens who cannot speak up for themselves. I look forward to working with you so that together we can make your quality of life better and I will do everything in my power to ensure that Virginia remains the best state to do business, live, and raise a family.”

  1. Should be a good race. I don’t think the GOP drew this district as R- friendly as they think. They have it at 55% Republican, but that’s based entirely off the 2009 McDonnell landslide.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Haven’t had a chance to crunch the numbers myself but 55% for McDonnell, who won statewide with almost 59% of the vote, should mean the district is competitive for a Dem. Would love to see how the down ballot statewide candidates fared (particularly LG).
