Weiner: another flawed man

By now, you've no doubt seen the video of NY Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner's bizarre press conference yesterday. (If you haven't, you can watch the entire video, including the Q&A after his statement, here.) Weiner admitted that he sent the now infamous underwear photo, among other things. As an avid user of Twitter, I have … Continue reading Weiner: another flawed man

Out in the Park on a Sunday afternoon

Sunday's rainstorms gave way to an overcast, steamy day so I along with a lot of other people headed to Town Point Park for the 23rd Annual Out in the Park festivities. It's been a while since I attended one of these. Actually, I haven't been since the event moved from Lafayette Park about six … Continue reading Out in the Park on a Sunday afternoon

News today: John Edwards indicted, pleads not guilty. How far they fall! It's been almost three years since I first became aware of what Edwards was up to. As despicable as his behavior was, the man's a jerk, not a felon. Sen. William Wampler retires. Have I gotten too cynical to believe that he is … Continue reading Quick links 06/03/11

Friday fun: are you a morning or night person?

Um, I really didn't need a quiz to tell me this 😉 You Are an Afternoon Person You can find energy any time of the day ... or night! You prefer to be out and about when most other people are. Very early mornings or very late nights aren't really your thing. You're practically solar powered, … Continue reading Friday fun: are you a morning or night person?

Norfolk should join the crowd

When I see the editorial board of The Virginian-Pilot write stuff like this, I know Norfolk has come a long, long way: Ideally, people would treat each other fairly and equitably, without needing rules to do so. But this is not an ideal world. Virginia Beach and Chesapeake rightfully have already extended constitutional protections where … Continue reading Norfolk should join the crowd

FOIA: Ensuring that government sees sunshine

My latest op-ed appeared in Wednesday's Virginian-Pilot. The original story about Steve and Patricia Orr, which partially prompted the piece, can be found here. Should you ever find the need to submit a FOIA request to your local government, try visiting the city or county website. When I searched, all of the Hampton Roads cities … Continue reading FOIA: Ensuring that government sees sunshine

Loyola, Northam, Blevins, Cosgrove

A couple of quick notes on some Hampton Roads races, courtesy of PilotOnline tweets. First up, the 6th Senate District: http://twitter.com/#!/PilotOnPolitics/status/75993140317786112 This confirms what I've been hearing. Former Congressional candidate Ben Loyola, who lost to Scott Rigell for the Republican nomination last year, is poised to obtain the nod. Word is that he has to … Continue reading Loyola, Northam, Blevins, Cosgrove

Bobby Scott, Scott Rigell cancel each other’s vote

Two members of the Hampton Roads Congressional delegation, Bobby Scott (D-3rd) and Scott Rigell (R-2nd) cast opposing votes on increasing the debt limit Tuesday. Scott voted in favor while Rigell voted against the symbolic vote. The real vote will take place in two months. In a press release, Scott said: I support a clean debt … Continue reading Bobby Scott, Scott Rigell cancel each other’s vote

Out in the Park returns to Norfolk

This Sunday, Out in the Park will be held in Norfolk's Town Point Park after five years in Chesapeake. With 8,000 attendees last year, it is expected that 10,000 will attend this year. That is a far cry from the much smaller numbers the premiere GLBT event in Hampton Roads garnered in 2005 when I … Continue reading Out in the Park returns to Norfolk
