Virginians working harder for less

So says a new report (pdf) issued by the Commonwealth Institute for Fiscal Analysis, which is part of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy. Consider this: • Worker productivity has been steadily climbing in Virginia since 1999, and the state continues to outperform the nation on this measure. • In 2006, each worker in … Continue reading Virginians working harder for less

Get your anti-Palin groove on

There is a wealth of information out there about VP candidate Sarah Palin. But the best source I've found is a blog called Mudflats. The writer lives in Alaska and has been covering politics from there since well before Palin was chosen. Being close to the action, the blog gives an interesting, local perspective on … Continue reading Get your anti-Palin groove on

Warner picks up more endorsements

Former governor Mark Warner picked up some more endorsements today, this time from various sheriffs across the Old Dominion. The endorsements came as the Virginia Sheriff's Association held their conference today in Roanoke. The association itself does not endorse candidates. Warner has held a commanding lead in the polls over his Republican rival, Jim Gilmore. … Continue reading Warner picks up more endorsements

In case you missed it: SNL – Palin / Hillary

This is just too funny. Tina Fey has got Palin down pat 🙂 (Note: there is a 15-second ad at the beginning) My favorite line: "I can see Russia from my house." UPDATE: For some reason, this video autoplays. I find that annoying. You can see the video here

So is Terry running for governor?

That was the question I posed to Terry McAuliffe, former DPVA chair, former DNC chair and Clinton advisor, yesterday at Mark Warner's Pig Roast. McAuliffe was coy. He said that he's focused on 2008. (Earlier in the day, he  had announced that he was planning a 30-locality tour, ostensibly to campaign for Mark Warner and … Continue reading So is Terry running for governor?

The proposal for this debate, to be hosted by WSLS-NBC 10 in Roanoke, was submitted to the campaigns in July. Yet to be determined are the details on the moderator and the media panel. The Pulpit Speaks: May 16, 1959

An article written by my father, the Rev. C. Thomas Paige, as it appeared in the Tri-State Defender on the date shown. The world is filled with tragedies. One does not have to go far before he runs into one tragedy or another. The really tragic thing is those involved do not realize that they … Continue reading The Pulpit Speaks: May 16, 1959

Drake vs Nye: the first debate

Incumbent Republican Congresswoman Thelma Drake and Democratic challenger Glenn Nye squared off in the first public debate of the season Friday afternoon.  The format allowed each candidate four minutes to answer the question and a one-minnute rebuttal, with a two-minute closing statement. Whoever went first, determined by the winner of a coin toss, always answered … Continue reading Drake vs Nye: the first debate
