Judicial selection

Much discussion was had last year about the selection of judges in Virginia, particularly surrounding the selection in Norfolk. This year, the conversation has been a little under the radar but continues nonetheless. Judges are selected by the General Assembly and as this article points out, the process is far from being non-political. Sunday's Parade … Continue reading Judicial selection

The Pulpit Speaks: February 13, 1960

An article written by my father, the Rev. C. Thomas Paige, as it appeared in the Tri-State Defender on the date shown. "And he said unto them, 'I am a Hebrew; and I fear the Lord!'" -- Jonah 1:9 The above are the words contained in an answer to a question directed to Jonah by … Continue reading The Pulpit Speaks: February 13, 1960

Nader in

(Because somebody called me this morning and woke me up at the ungodly hour of 8:30am on the first day I've had to sleep late in three weeks) I watched Meet the Press this morning and heard Ralph Nader announce that he is running for president. Nader, who will celebrate his 74th birthday next week, … Continue reading Nader in

American Idol Results 02/21/08

The one I missed was the kid from Staunton, Colton Berry. 28 million votes were cast. 20 million people have watched the 19 Democratic presidential debates. Hmm - perhaps we should make the candidates sing? 🙂

Calling it like it is

At the center of both is Councilman Randy Wright. No "survey" can undo any of that progress, especially one done by a single-issue advocacy group, Norfolk … Continue reading Calling it like it is

NYT on McCain: followup

The New Republic has a fascinating story up about what went on at The New York Times in the months leading up to their story on Republican presidential hopeful John McCain. What happened? The publication of the article capped three months of intense internal deliberations at the Times over whether to publish the negative piece … Continue reading NYT on McCain: followup

American Idol: The 12 gals

Wednesday night, we were treated to performances by the 12 female finalists. The female field is a strong one. By far, the best performance of the night was that of Ramiele Malubay. I think she could go all the way. But I have to admit that Carly Smithson was a close second. I'm always entertained … Continue reading American Idol: The 12 gals

Debate open thread

Thank goodness for TiVo! I'm been buried in work and had planned to sit down and watch American Idol when it dawned on me that the debate on CNN was coming on at the same time. So I'm watching the debate and recording my favorite entertainment.
