Pilot confirms Redskins talk

Well, it only took them two weeks 😉 but the Virginian Pilot has finally gotten someone to go on record about the possible relocation of the Redskins training camp to Virginia Beach.

City manager’s husband dies

Drew Williams, the husband of Norfolk City Manager Regina Williams, has died. PilotOnline reports: Williams, 66, had been treated for more than a year for a severe colon infection. He was a native of Michigan, [city spokesman Terry] Bishirjian said. My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Williams and her family at this difficult time.

A ham to Kansas

Kansas beat Virginia Tech last night in the Orange Bowl 24-21, so Governor Tim Kaine will have to make good on his friendly wager with Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius by sending her a Virginia ham. Turnovers killed the fifth-ranked Hokies - and the two-quarterback system didn't help. The eighth-ranked Jayhawks took advantage, despite heroic efforts … Continue reading A ham to Kansas

Obligatory Iowa caucus post

I guess I have to post something about the Iowa caucus, so here it is. Truth be told, Larry Sabato said all that I have been thinking about this ridiculous caucus. The highpoints: It's just that (1) the caucuses this year are way too early; (2) the caucuses and the state are unrepresentative of the … Continue reading Obligatory Iowa caucus post

Moran forms PAC for 2009 gubernatorial

House Democratic Caucus chairman Brian Moran will establish a new PAC Friday, according to this AP story. Moran will not officially announce his run for governor until after the General Assembly session is over. So it seems were headed for an expensive primary, one I had hoped could be avoided. The Republicans are already gleefully … Continue reading Moran forms PAC for 2009 gubernatorial

Election eve podcast

I was one of three guests last night on Johnny Camacho's podcast. Our primary conversation was about the 2008 elections and tonight's Iowa caucuses, in particular. We also chatted a bit about the 2009 gubernatorial race. Here's a direct link to the podcast. Check it out 😉

He’s at it again

Another year, another set of predictions from our local soothsayer, Pat Robertson. This time, God has told him who is going to win the election in November but he's not sharing that little bit of info. "He told me some things about the election, but I'm not going to say, because some old man on … Continue reading He’s at it again

Landmark to be sold?

The Virginian Pilot is reporting that Landmark Communications, the Pilot's parent company, may be sold. Landmark is privately owned and boasts among its assets The Weather Channel, which The New York Times says is worth some $5 billion. I doubt if Landmark is just "looking into" a sale, as the Pilot headline indicates. “I can … Continue reading Landmark to be sold?

Giving up on Richardson, I’m supporting…

Last August, I wrote the post below, after the Logo Democratic Debate. But because of all of the local races we had, I felt it was more important that I focus on those and not what was happening nationally. With the Iowa caucuses tomorrow, now is the time. The "question" did it for me. But … Continue reading Giving up on Richardson, I’m supporting…

New Year’s resolutions

Reading The Virginian-Pilot this morning, I ran across an article on New Year's resolutions. Studies show most people don't keep their resolutions. A British psychologist last week pegged the success rate at 12 percent. Yes, I have goals. But they aren't tied to it being a new year. So this year, just like last year, … Continue reading New Year’s resolutions
