Via Yahoo: Generations have praised the wisdom of getting up early in the morning, but a Japanese study says early-risers are actually at a higher risk of developing heart problems. Can we put that "early to bed, early to rise" thing away, now? 😉

Whoopi: Not funny
I love Whoopi Goldberg - the comedian and actor, that is. You know - the one who cracks me up with her standup routine, the one who has been hilarious in the Sister Act movies, the one who was great in The Color Purple and Ghost. I actually caught her on the radio the other … Continue reading Whoopi: Not funny
Debate roundup: Northam v Rerras, Miller v Giffin
I guess I really shouldn't call Tuesday night's gathering at the Northside Civic League a "debate." Instead, it was a forum in which the four candidates - Ralph Northam, Nick Rerras, Paula Miller and Hank Giffin - took turns answering questions. I don't recall a single instance of a candidate saying, "my opponent believes X … Continue reading Debate roundup: Northam v Rerras, Miller v Giffin

This is the biggest political event in Hampton Roads, drawing attendees from all over. Since the event runs three hours, people usually wander in a little late. Not this year. … Continue reading Congressman Scott’s Labor Day picnic

Here's a photo from Congressman Bobby Scott's 31st Annual Labor Day picnic. I'm getting the video of the speeches converted and uploaded and will have that and a wrap up of the event tomorrow.
“Quayle season”
When I arrived at Steve Heretick's Fish Fry yesterday, I saw a series of blaze orange caps. Even though I'm not a hunter, I'm aware that they wear the color. So I was curious as to why the caps were being handed out. "Just wait," I was told. So I mingled around. Some 125 people … Continue reading “Quayle season”
Labor Day 2007
Amidst all of the picnics, shopping, and political goings on, let's not forget why we celebrate Labor Day: Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have … Continue reading Labor Day 2007
