Friday fun: Ride the Tide

I didn't make it to the opening of the Tide this morning but a lot of folks did. Here's a video produced by The Virginian-Pilot: The paper also has tons of pictures online in this story, including the one below The Tide is free to ride all weekend. Looks like fun! UPDATE: Due to the … Continue reading Friday fun: Ride the Tide

90th HOD: James getting noticed

Rick James, the challenger to Algie Howell in the 90th House of Delegates district, is getting some notice - and some help. The latest is an email sent out on his behalf Wednesday by the Sierra Club. The Virginia Education Association endorsed James as well and has been phonebanking for him. The primary election is … Continue reading 90th HOD: James getting noticed

Leave this law behind

My latest op-ed, title above, appeared in The Virginian-Pilot yesterday. The topic was No Child Left Behind and the recent revelation that a majority of Virginia schools failed to make adequate yearly progress on the most recent round of tests. One of the most interesting items I came across in my research for the column … Continue reading Leave this law behind

BREAKING: West: “I’m in”

Gary West, who ran in the 93rd oops! 94th two years ago, is a candidate for the now open seat. In a phone call, West says it appears he is the only candidate seeking the Democratic nomination. I had heard that former Commissioner of the Revenue Charles Crowson was considering a run but West told … Continue reading BREAKING: West: “I’m in”

One in, one out

As in Republican presidential candidates. In the midst of Saturday's Iowa straw poll, Texas Governor Rick Perry announced his candidacy. By Sunday, after a disappointing third place finish in the straw poll, former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty gave up his bid for the position. I expect we will see a few other candidates drop out … Continue reading One in, one out

Friday fun: How should you change the world?

I had the misfortune pleasure of watching the Republican presidential debate last night. I think it's always important to try to understand what makes people tick. How ironic, then, that the first quiz I pulled up on Blogthings today is one about changing the world, which, being president has the possibility to do. You Should … Continue reading Friday fun: How should you change the world?
