Moving VA Forward – to the tune of $750K

I attended the Sounds and Tastes of Virginia fundraiser for Governor Tim Kaine's PAC, Moving Virginia Forward, last night. I arrived in time to attend the VIP reception, which started at 6pm. The crowd gathered in the room were treated to the soft jazz of the Skip Giles Trio and some wonderful Virginia food, including … Continue reading Moving VA Forward – to the tune of $750K

78th district: Cosgrove has a challenger

Somehow I missed that there is a challenger to Republican incumbent John Cosgrove in House district 78. His name is Michael Meyer. VPAP shows no income or expenses as of the last filing, which was thru 5/30. I haven't heard much about this campaign. If anybody has any info, let me know 😉 UPDATE: Known … Continue reading 78th district: Cosgrove has a challenger

21/51: Why it is important

Several conversations that I have had over the last few days made me realize that some people may be unaware of the implications of Democratic control of the General Assembly. Perhaps it is because we have so many transplants from other areas that I often run into people that know a lot more about national … Continue reading 21/51: Why it is important

Mugler withdraws from 1st Senate race

The Daily Press is reporting that Hampton Commissioner of the Revenue Ross Mugler will not seek the Democratic nomination for state senate in the 1st district. Mugler said in a release that he wanted to unite Democrats rather the subject them to a "quickly constructed firehouse primary" which could prove financially and politically expensive. I … Continue reading Mugler withdraws from 1st Senate race

Northam: yes, Rerras has a race

I opened up the paper this morning and saw this story on the cover of the Hampton Roads section. Democratic candidate Ralph Northam has incumbent state senator Nick Rerras on the ropes. He's outraised him, he's siphoning away his support and he is campaigning hard. Of course, Rerras' "feminazi" comment hasn't helped his cause and … Continue reading Northam: yes, Rerras has a race

Campaign signs in Norfolk

orfdem made mention of the sign ordinance in Norfolk: Campaigns [signs] are not supposed to be posted until 90 days before an election. I understood that to be the case as well. And seeing Rerras signs pop up in my neighborhood over the past few weeks, I wondered how they were getting around the rule. … Continue reading Campaign signs in Norfolk

Report: Norfolk candidates’ forum

I attended a candidates' forum earlier this evening hosted by the Norfolk division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. Norfolk is represented in the General Assembly by two Senators - Yvonne B. Miller (D-5th) and Nick Rerras (R-6th) and six delegates - Kenny Alexander (D-89th), Paula Miller (D-87th), Algie Howell (D-90th), Johnny Joannou (D-79th), … Continue reading Report: Norfolk candidates’ forum

New Page: 21/51

I've added a new page to this blog - 21/51 - which includes a listing of all of the Democratic candidates in the Commonwealth. Click on the tab at the top of the blog (next to guestbook) to access it. Of course, the Arlington County Democrats, who came up with that cool 21/51 logo, beat … Continue reading New Page: 21/51

What’s wrong with this picture?

Click to enlarge When I first heard that Senator Nick Rerras had appropriated the blue crab of challenger Ralph Northam, I needed to see it for myself. Because I live the 6th, I get Rerras' mailings all the time. However, since this dinner was being held on the Eastern Shore, I didn't get the invitation. … Continue reading What’s wrong with this picture?
