American Idol Results 04/02/08: The Elite Eight

The music of Dolly Parton was featured on Tuesday's show. I'm a longtime Dolly fan - she's one heck of a songwriter. So the contestants had a rather wide range of songs to choose from. Some chose well, others -- well, let's just say they didn't do Dolly justice. Wednesday night's show got off to … Continue reading American Idol Results 04/02/08: The Elite Eight

American Idol Results 03/26/08: And then there were 9

For Tuesday's show, the contestants got to choose a song to sing from the year of their birth. That meant the mid to late 1980s for most of them. And for me, it was interesting as I was familiar with most of the songs, being that it was the time frame when I was singing … Continue reading American Idol Results 03/26/08: And then there were 9

American Idol Results 03/19/08: The top 10

As expected, Wednesday night's show was BORING. Simon said they made a mistake by doing the Beatles two weeks in a row. Well, duh! The Beatles may have been a great band 40 years ago but I suspect even Beatles fans thought their music was butchered last night. None of the contestants showed me a … Continue reading American Idol Results 03/19/08: The top 10

American Idol Results 03/12/08: Down to 11

American Idol opened with the comment that like last night, next week's show will feature the Lennon/McCartney Song Book. Well, I guess I'll be bored again. Have to admit I'm not a fan of this particular genre. Plus, with few exceptions, the performers last night had a hard time with the music. Most of them … Continue reading American Idol Results 03/12/08: Down to 11

American Idol Results 03/06/08: The Top 12

Thursday night the sixteen contestants on American Idol were reduced to twelve: six guys and six gals. It's really a shame that they want the show to be balanced, as I think the females are much stronger than the males. Oh well. This week's theme was the 1980s and most of the songs were ones … Continue reading American Idol Results 03/06/08: The Top 12

American Idol Results 02/28/08

DirecTV changed their broadcast of hi-def programming a few months back, requiring me to change out my (expensive) hi-def TiVo box for (a cheap) one provided by them. Since then, I've had nothing but trouble with recording my shows. Tuesday evening, the American Idol guys show started recording 36 minutes in, which meant that I … Continue reading American Idol Results 02/28/08

American Idol Results 02/21/08

Well, I picked three of the four sent home Thursday evening: Amy Davis, Garrett Haley, and Joanne Borgella. The one I missed was the kid from Staunton, Colton Berry. 28 million votes were cast. 20 million people have watched the 19 Democratic presidential debates. Hmm - perhaps we should make the candidates sing? 🙂

American Idol: The 12 gals

Wednesday night, we were treated to performances by the 12 female finalists. The female field is a strong one. By far, the best performance of the night was that of Ramiele Malubay. I think she could go all the way. But I have to admit that Carly Smithson was a close second. I'm always entertained … Continue reading American Idol: The 12 gals

American Idol: The 12 guys

Last night, we got a chance to see performances by the 12 male finalists, including Colton Berry, from Staunton VA. Colton may not be going home in Thursday's results show, but he wasn't the best performer of the night. For me, the best one was Jason Yeager. The theme of the night was 1960s music … Continue reading American Idol: The 12 guys

American Idol Season 7: The final 24

The American Idol field has been whittled down to the 24 finalists. I have to admit that I've been a bit busy over the past few weeks so I haven't seen most of these folks perform, except brief clips on last night's show. There is a rocker girl and at least one rocker guy, so … Continue reading American Idol Season 7: The final 24
