Just a reminder: if you are not registered to vote, the deadline is Tuesday, October 10. Head to your local voter registration office, or to one of the satellite offices. You can also register by mail, provided the application is postmarked by the deadline. More details on voter registration, including locations and forms, can be … Continue reading Deadline looming for voter registration

Vote NO: talk about Ballot #1

Last night, I got one of the new Vote NO yard signs. I live at the end of a culdesac so there is little traffic down here. But, we've been having sewer work done in my neighborhood for the last six months. This morning, as I left for my walk, several of the contractors were … Continue reading Vote NO: talk about Ballot #1

S2006: 2.1 million calls

The caller ID says S2006. The caller? The Family Foundation. The group is making 2.1 million calls on issues such as gay marriage and abortion, apparently in an effort to turn out the conservative vote in November. If you haven't gotten the call, you probably will.

Hail to the Redskins!

What a game! Was Mark Brunell rejuvenated at the prospect of playing his old team? It sure looked that way. His passes were, for the most part, crisp and on target. Given the stitches in his elbow and the fact that he didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, I was prepared for another let down. After … Continue reading Hail to the Redskins!

The Pulpit Speaks: January 16, 1960

An article written by my father, the Rev. C. Thomas Paige, as it appeared in the Tri-State Defender on the date shown. A few days ago I was made aware of the fact that 26 civilizations have come and gone during the history of mankind. These people have come and gone in many instances foiling … Continue reading The Pulpit Speaks: January 16, 1960

SurveyUSA and Marshall Newman amendment

Included in the latest SurveyUSA poll is a question on the Marshall Newman amendment, Question 1 on the ballot. SurveyUSA changed its methodology when asking this question: SurveyUSA has gone from reading a summary of the ballot question to, today, reading no summary at all... It is wrong to infer that the number of "undecided" … Continue reading SurveyUSA and Marshall Newman amendment

Amendment news

Head over to Blogging the Amendment for some updates. The Arlington County Board and the Falls Church City Council have joined the chorus of those who see this amendment as going too far, writing discrimination into the Bill of Rights. They are urging their constituents to VoteNO on Ballot Question #1. I applaud these communities … Continue reading Amendment news

An Open Letter to the Virginia Blogosphere

As two black bloggers in the Virginia political blogsphere, we bring a unique perspective to the conversation regarding race that swirls around us. Each of our families have been in Virginia for more than 150 years, so we are well acquainted with the both with Virginia’s sordid past and its slow, steady move towards inclusion … Continue reading An Open Letter to the Virginia Blogosphere

Ugly, ain’t it?

If you are seeing this blog looking, well, quite ugly this morning, don't blame it on me. The folks here at WordPress.com are working on it. In the meantime, everything still works. Just scroll around and look for what you want. Hopefully, things will be back to normal soon. UPDATE: Looks like things have been … Continue reading Ugly, ain’t it?

Monday morning quarterback in the evening

How about those Redskins? Yes! Finally a win. Over the lowly Texans but hey, I'll take it 😉 Brunell looked like an All-Pro quarterback yesterday. He set the record for consecutive completions in a game, with 22 in a row. I actually missed almost the entire first half (long church service yesterday) but what I … Continue reading Monday morning quarterback in the evening
