The AP is reporting that Barack Obama and his family have resigned their membership in Trinty. Obama campaign communications director Robert Gibbs said Obama had resigned from the church "over the last few days." Interesting.

DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee open thread

I'm watching the coverage of the RBC hearing. I happen to be watching CNN's coverage right now (you can watch streaming coverage here) but I'm sure other channels are covering it, too. Anyone else watching? Right now, DNC Howard Dean is speaking. Wants three things: Respect the voters in FL/MI, including those who didn't vote … Continue reading DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee open thread

Random thoughts

The Rules and Bylaws Committee of the DNC will be meeting Saturday to hear challenges to the decision to strip Florida and Michigan of all of their delegates. Interested individuals were able to sign up to speak and I understand all of the slots filled in seven minutes! I think that is pretty amazing, and … Continue reading Random thoughts

HBO’s “Recount”

If you didn't see HBO's "Recount" when it aired Sunday evening, make sure you put it on your list to watch. The casting was great - you could actually tell who was portraying whom without the captions. I happened to hear James Baker, a major player in this film, at the Norfolk Forum a few … Continue reading HBO’s “Recount”

I have heard her make this reference before, also citing her husband's 1992 race, both of which were hard … Continue reading Statement from Robert Kennedy Jr.

All politics is local

I know - I say it all the time but I just don't think I can say it often enough. Last Thursday night was the Norfolk gathering of Drinking Liberally. As I was about to leave, I got into a conversation with somebody who said that if Obama wasn't the nominee, she would be voting … Continue reading All politics is local

Veto warning changes Drake’s vote on Webb GI bill

Congresswoman Thelma Drake (R-2nd) held a press conference yesterday in which she offered her reason for voting against the Webb GI bill. According to this article, Drake, who was one of the bill's sponsors, voted against it because President Bush has promised to veto the bill. I doubt this was the "dedicated answer" that the … Continue reading Veto warning changes Drake’s vote on Webb GI bill

John “I’ll say anything in order to win the presidency” McCain

Opinion, please: can the tent become too big?

In 2006, there was a push for Democrats to gain the majority in the House and Senate of the US Congress. At the time, I wondered exactly what those majorities would bring us. After all, it wasn't as if we were electing left-wing idealogues. Since that time, we've added to the majority in the House, … Continue reading Opinion, please: can the tent become too big?
