The race in the 5th CD is the one to watch! As of this writing, incumbent Republican Virgil Goode is trailing Democratic challenger Tom Perriello by 550 votes. This would be a tremendous upset, one that few would have predicted. 301 of 307 precincts have reported. Wow!

Virginia will turn blue!
Just finished reviewing the numbers on the SBE website. Right this minute, Obama is leading by about 19,000 votes. Looking at what's not in the numbers - Richmond, Roanoke, parts of Arlington, and Fairfax County - it's pretty clear that Virginia has, for the first time in 44 years, voted for a Democrat for President.

It's beginning to look like it. Here at NPR HQ, the folks have Obama at 200 EVs to 76 for McCain. This means that with California (55), Oregon (7) and Washington (11), Obama gets over 270. Fox News has just called the NC Senate race for Kay Hagan, a pretty significant upset here. I guess essentially calling someone an atheist just doesn't fly, even in the Bible Belt.
